Chew and Be Lean!
Over The Teeth and Through The Gums, Relax Stomach It Never Comes

Oriental teachers in ancient times believed that there is contained in the food of man a certain form of Qi(key) or Chi (chee). Both words meaning energy or lifeforce. Today, using modern scientific instrumentation (Kirlian cameras) this belief is now a verifiable fact. The energy can be photographed and observed in all living things, including the food you eat. This energy or life-force is absolutely necessary for man's maintenance of strength and energy.

Qi (energy) is absorbed from the food by the nerves of the tongue, mouth and teeth. The act of mastication (chewing) liberates this energy by separating the particles of food into minute bits, thus exposing as many atoms of energy to the mouth, teeth and tongue as possible. This sends the energy to the cells in all parts of the body to furnish the vitality needed for tissue replacement, health and long life!

In this modern day and age we live by schedules. We are in such a hurry that we miss out on most of this vital energy exchange. We, for all intents and purposes, gulp food down nearly whole. We maybe give each bite four or five chews and then swallow, leaving the majority of the breakdown effort to be performed by the stomach acid and our limited supply of enzymes supplied by our bodies. Could there be a relationship to the poor processing of food and the obesity which continues to grow in our society?

Experiment

Try this fun exercise while enjoying a quiet lunch. Take the time to thoroughly chew (masticate) ever bite of food until it totally dissolves and disappears in your mouth. Yes, this can be done! Never swallow whole food for the entire meal. Paul Leatham tried this exercise and once, in a forty-five minute period of continuous chewing all he was able to consume was one half cup of yogurt and one half of a bran muffin. He relayed his feelings about the experiment and reported, "I felt full and energetic for the rest of the day."

Here at EAT & Be Lean, I experimented with it as well and found the same results. I actually ate to complete satisfaction and only had 1 cup of plain yogurt mixed with sesame seeds and Dee's Cereal (see the Healthified Recipe in this newsletter). All in all it was about 1 1/2 cups of crunchy yogurt by the time it was all mixed together. I worked slowly at it for an hour or two and felt more energy and satisfaction from that little bit of food for a much longer period of time than I have ever experienced from a full breakfast of two eggs, toast, hash browns and turkey bacon (though I do love the flavor of all of that). I also have a cleaner feeling within me that is hard to explain to you as a reader. Even more interesting, after doing it for a week (every morning for breakfast) it seemed to help me break through a weight plateau that I haven't been able to break through for several months. It's also surprising that there are no hunger pangs, considering that I didn't swallow a single bite of it.

The proof is in the pudding! In this case...the proof is in the chewing! Try it and see how your body responds.

THE FIVE LEVELS OF HEALTH
Where Does Your Lifestyle Fit In?

Article
Level Four
The Doorway To Lasting Health

Freedom and peace of mind describe this level of health. Fear of illness is a thing of the past. Inner confidence and self-esteem become close associates. Fresh, whole foods are utilized on a consistent basis. A level four person experiences not only a cleansing of the body, but a cleansing of the soul. They tend to have a greater clarity of thought and understanding of who they are and where they are going in life. Calm, patient, loving attitudes become the norm and higher quality relationships are developed.

Foods

Level four people move to a more simple routine of eating. The foods are less complicated to prepare, are more whole, raw and pure, and are found in a much greater variety. Water is nearly the only liquid a level four individual will drink. It is always carefully guarded to insure purity.

Water filters are a must and often found being utilized throughout the entire house. Goats milk (if any type of milk) may be used in moderate proportions for drinking, but is more extensively used in making cheeses, yogurt, or pouring over breakfast cereals. Other than taste preferences, since goat milk matches mothers milk the closest, it may be used without restriction.

Vegetables are the mainstay of the level four diets. They are eaten raw for the most part and the variety of flavors and colors are vast. If they are cooked, they are steamed and enjoyed warm, but still crisp, maintaining the life within the food itself. Juicing is becoming an art to these people who are considered mainly vegetarian, though still done in moderation due to the importance of mastication (chewing) for higher energy and health.

Grains are always eaten whole whenever possible. Sprouting a number of different beans and grains is a way of life, combining the sprouts with various dishes. Pastas, breads and rices are always made from grains that are carefully prepared and often are combined with a variety of other whole grains, nuts, etc, and are very hearty, interesting and tasty.

Fruits are used in a large variety as well. The skins are washed thoroughly and eaten whenever possible. Since fruits are most effective at cleansing the body, you will see baskets full in the kitchen to be enjoyed throughout the day. Often they will be brought out at mealtime as a dessert.

Tomatoes, oranges, grapefruit, lemons and other high acid fruits are used more sparingly. When these highly acidic foods are used it is in a very small amount for a flavor variation.

Fruits are dehydrated for storage rather than canned because it offers a superior method of preserving the nutritional value. These are always re-hydrated before consumption.

Proteins, for level four people are obtained through a combination of a whole grain and a bean or legume. They know that the body manufactures proteins on its own, not requiring it from an outside source.

Proteins are rarely obtained through animal sources such as meat, eggs and dairy products. When and if any of these are eaten, they are prepared from home grown stock or from a local source that insures natural quality without chemicals, antibiotics or preservatives. Meats are seldom a part of a meal; never serving pork, rarely beef, while sometimes preparing turkey or chicken and more commonly fish. Once a week is considered more than plenty when it comes to meats and animal products of any kind.

Desserts are of a natural source such as is found in fruits, yogurts, nuts, raw honey, pure maple syrup or blackstrap molasses. Sugar products are distasteful to level four achievers and they would rather eat nothing than consume something with sugar in it. Company would be hard pressed to find anything in the entire house that would contain sugar or artificial sweeteners. Level four people do not struggle with food or substance cravings of any kind. They prepare for any outside social events where they might be faced with strictly preserved, refined foods, by eating a hearty, healthy meal prior to the event and taking a few healthy snacks of their own. Life is very simple for them when it comes to desserts because they are in harmony with their mind and body.

Exercise

Exercise is the favorite part of the day for a level four individual. If there is a craving of any kind it would be in the area of movement and fresh air. Whenever possible the activity is outside, interacting with the environment and activating all of their senses. Exercise is a must and occurs practically on a daily basis whether they are at home or on the road. They are quite dedicated to their exercise routines, setting aside 30 to 60 minutes without question for this health producing ritual.

Family activities are frequently movement oriented and out-of-doors, too. Many family members participate in extra curricular sport functions and support each other in them.

Attitude

These people enjoy the peace that comes from nature and tend to be in the out-of-doors more. They leave their jobs and return to a haven they have created for themselves at home that reflects the calmness of living a natural existence. Often you will find level four people moving to more open, woodsy environments where they can surround themselves with lush foliage, natural woods, beautiful rocks and decorations that are present in nature. They seek out locations where the air is still pure and if at all possible they can have a running river or stream near by.

At this level, the television is usually off and personal interaction is high on the priority list. Families and friends spend more time together and have a greater appreciation for personal interaction and learning. They enjoy sharing a variety of disciplines as they learn to apply them. They have a hunger to expand their understanding and are less content with the limitations of our modern, less open-minded society.

Quality of Health

Level four people are the picture of health. Their bodies are typically lean and strong, with a beautiful satin sheen on their skin, shiny hair, alertness in their eyes and they move in an energetic, composed, purposeful fashion.

As was mentioned prior, this level offers a relief from the fear of disease and drawn out illnesses. These people rarely are ill and when they are it is usually a short lived cold to cleanse their bodies naturally once or twice a year.

Health Awareness

This level of health draws people who have a love for learning. They are informed about foods, exercise, positive mental programming and are very open to new ideas. Nevertheless, they do not take new information lightly, implementing without proving. They question the normal routines and suggestions of doctors, naturopaths, chiropractors, iridologists, herbalists, etc., and do their homework before implementing any advice.

Their immune systems are strong and effective. They are all but strangers to the majority of modern medications and are amazingly informed as to the natural methods of staying healthy and healing themselves and their families.

Health Life-style

Menus are fascinating to onlookers from lower levels of health. To them, it's hard to believe that anyone's appetite could be satisfied without gravies, meats, cooked foods and sugars. Lower level participants see the level four life-style as somewhat deprived and "not really living"!

Level four people almost certainly maintain a private garden where they can raise a wide variety of vegetables, grains, and fruits. Here they can prevent the use of harmful chemicals that detour the pests, burden the fruits and filter into their bodies causing damage. They recognize the benefits the garden has on their personal sense of well-being and mental health.

Level four people have taken control of their own lives and their own health. They no longer turn their well being over to other people.

Conclusion

This level is not difficult to move to after living a strong level three lifestyle. The toughest part is learning to cook with less or no meat and expanding your knowledge of vegetables, grains and fruits. It is a wonderful level of health and a quality of freedom you will never want to give up once you've experienced it.

Use This and Enjoy The Fountain of Youth
The Magic Of Nature's Own Lotion

The only truly friendly lotions for the skin are not made from 15 to 30 different weird sounding elements; nor do they smell like lilacs or musk. They do not plug up the skin, nor do they sit on the surface of your body for hours, making you look and feel like a greased pig. They can be eaten as well as worn! Curious?

Extra virgin, cold-pressed Olive Oil and Aloe Vera are the only two skin preparations we will use here at EAT & Be Lean. The greener the olive oil, the more likely it is natural. The purer the Aloe Vera, the better the results.

The skin is the largest eliminative organ of your body. It's hard for many people to accept the fact that regular lotions on the market today cause their skin to fail in it's job to eliminate toxicity from within, aging them prematurely. The cleaner the skin is the more it is allowed to breathe and function normally. This very large organ should eliminate 2 1/2 pounds of waste product from your body every day. That is as much as the colon is capable of eliminating! When it's plugged up with fragrant but greasy lotions it is forced to throw it's job of eliminating waste products onto your lungs, eventually clogging them up as well. So, keeping your skin free and clear helps prevent not only skin disorders, but also lung disorders such as allergies, asthma, liquid accumulation and more.

Whole books can be written on olive oil and its beneficial effects to the body. Olive oil is a complete food for man. Yes, that means it acts as a food even when put on your skin! The olive odor dissipates quickly and the oil absorbs into the skin, feeding it and nourishing the body itself.

Aloe Vera has long been known to nourish and heal the body and is a wonderful mix with olive oil to soften and maintain healthy skin.

Formula

If you have naturally oily skin, mix together and apply about 1/4 olive oil and 3/4 Aloe Vera gel. If you have dry skin, mix 3/4 olive oil with 1/4 Aloe Vera gel. Experiment until you get just the right mixture. If you would like a particular NATURAL fragrance, you can add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oil and shake it up. Essential oils may be purchased (and smell tested) at a local health food store.

You can use this over every inch of your body and it's also very affective in cleaning off makeup at night. Your skin will feel cleaner, fresher, younger and even lighter than it's ever felt before.

Note: Since Olive Oil and Aloe Vera do not contain any preservatives it is wise to mix up a small batch at a time. When it is completely used up mix a fresh batch. This will prevent any possibility of it spoiling through oxidative processes.

A SPECIAL TRIBUTE
At the Passing of Our Sister

Dana Thornock
Co-Founder and Originator of EAT & Be Lean

Sunday, August 14, 2005 at 7:30 A.M. Dana Thornock died in the comfortable, loving surrounds of her home with her family. She suffered with Systemic Schleuroderma for the past six years, waging an active and good battle through it all. She was an amazing women with strong convictions, a contagious zest for life and a perfect example of what a righteous and refined woman should always be.

Dana, along with her husband Nyle and sister-in-law Chris began the EAT & Be Lean program that improved the lives of thousands of people over the past 20 years. The simple truths that were taught through classes, books and tapes were found in Dana's lifestyle every day. She spent years analyzing and simplifying the information to compile it in an easy to read and understand manual. She taught classes with an enthusiasm and charisma that can only come from someone who practices what she preaches. Her lifestyle allowed her to live a lot longer and stronger than she would have otherwise.

Since her husband died in a car accident in 1988 she has pressed on, remarrying and raising an additional four children besides her own four sons. All have turned out to be fine young people with families of their own. She saw her youngest son graduate from high school in June and, reaching her goal to do so, was prepared to move on, excited to be with Nyle once again.

We know that Dana is at peace and probably loving the food up there! We pay tribute to her remarkable, influential life and bid her farewell (for now) with all of our love and admiration.
